They are located in the southwest hills of Portland, near Beaverton.

The history of the region tells us that Garden Home was an established community since 1882; when the electric railway was built at the beginning of the 20th century, Whitford was a station on the same line but this station was closed when the railway stopped running around 1920 - Garden Home became the name of a Portland suburb, while Whitford exists today primarily as the name of a Beaverton middle school.
